Breeding Genetics

Breeders have more tools today then ever before and it can be overwhelming with all the information and the best way to use it.  The first tool is a reproductive veterinarian and starts at the very beginning.  The next steps are testing of the DNA.  We want to look at any health risks that was not detected by the veterinarian.  We also want to look at their eyes (CERF testing) by an ophthalmologist.  All these test can be completed by their first birthday and as long as they have also been scored for temperament and disposition using Volhard's Puppy

Aptitude Testing.  Once these criteria's have been met we then want to look at the traits of a potential mating pair.

Dog's, like people, have recessive traits that could lead to a dominate gene if two are mated together.
